Virgin Media TV has crashed leaving thousands of customers cut off.

Realtime outage tracker Downdetector reported upwards of 2,000 complaints from the telecom giant’s customers earlier this afternoon.

London, Bournemouth and Portsmouth seem to be bearing the brunt of the issue with the majority of the complaints coming from there.

As of around 16.40, the problems had reduced significantly, focused mostly on London and the south coast

Virgin Media said via Twitter that they are 'aware of the issue and we are making sure that we are on top of this' but did not give a reason as to why the outage occurred in the first place. The company's website said they are 'making some essential changes'

A message appearing on their website stated that they are ‘making some essential changes’. 

The outage coincided with the Six Nations rugby match between England and Ireland, causing further anger.

‘At least update your website and or twitter page. Virgin is has become increasingly unreliable.’

Charlie wrote: ‘TV reception totally gone, has been for around 20 minutes now. 

‘Tried calling the automated number for any issues, no TV or broadband issues apparently. 

‘But there are many others like me with no signal!’

A Virgin Media spokesperson said: ‘We’re aware of an issue affecting broadcast TV services for some customers in Basildon, Croydon, Cosham, Pool and Southampton. 

‘Broadband services are unaffected. We apologise for the inconvenience caused and our teams are working promptly to resolve the problem.’
