Police arrested a fugitive alleged British drug dealer after a Costa del Sol ‘Wild West’ bar fight in which another man was left with his ‘guts hanging out’ in a stabbing.

Zathon Dale Williams was put on the wanted list after a no-show at Warwick Magistrates Court last September.

The 28-year-old from Bedworth, Warwickshire, became the latest Brit fugitive to be snared on the Costas after a mass fight at Steve’s Bar in Mijas Costa near Marbella late on Monday.

Six Brits were arrested following the bar knife fight which left one man, found on the ground with his ‘guts hanging out’, in intensive care.

Civil Guard association AUGC said the stabbed Brit had suffered an ‘evisceration’ injury.

The injured man, also British, is recovering at the Costa del Sol hospital near Marbella after a life-saving operation.

Williams is thought to have appeared before a judge at an extradition hearing in Madrid.

It was not immediately clear on Saturday 23 May if he had agreed to be flown back to the UK and whether his return would be put on hold so the Spanish courts could deal with him first over the bar fight.

He was using a different name on the Costa del Sol, with the one police had published being his possible alias.

Warwickshire Police went public with appeals for information on Williams’ whereabouts twice last October.

A spokesman said in the second appeal: ‘We are re-appealing for a man wanted after he failed to appear in court.

‘Zathon Dale Williams, 28, from Bedworth, was due to appear at Warwick Magistrates Court in September in connection with drug offences in Rugby.

‘He was also due to appear at Warwick Crown Court on October 25.

‘Police believe he may be in Spain and using the alias Zathon Hinsley.

‘They have evidence to suggest he flew to Malaga in August.

‘Officers are carrying out inquiries with Spanish police and urging anyone with family or friends living or travelling in the Malaga area to share the appeal.’

In an earlier appeal they said Williams was facing a charge of conspiracy to supply cocaine.

In January 2018 the Brit also made headlines for being caught behind the wheel in Coventry hours despite being banned from driving.

He was given a 16-week prison sentence.

A police tweet after he was stopped in a VW Golf on January 3, 2018 said: ‘He tried to give us his brother’s details, only he didn’t know them all fully.

‘Eventually gave us his real name. Now in custody and his car is being seized. £GotYa.’

Steve’s Bar had only opened hours before Monday night’s incident following an easing of Spain’s coronavirus restrictions.

Several objects including chairs and glasses are said to have been broken in the mass fight involving around ten Brits.

A spokesman said the incident showed police reinforcements were ‘vital.’

Police had to call for back-up to make the arrests. Three were held as they tried to flee down a nearby stream.

One of the six men held has been transferred to Madrid for an extradition hearing after police discovered he was wanted in the UK for drugs offences.

Local reports said the men involved in the fight knew each other and were drunk and possibly under the influence of drugs when violence flared. The motive is not known.

The pub landlord, who has not been available for comment, reportedly made an official complaint to police over the damage that occurred.
