Jockey, 24, trampled to death after horror fall during race in India

- Singh, 24, was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival
A jockey has died after falling from his horse and being trampled during a race in India.
Apprentice jockey Jitendra Singh, 24, had been competing at Hyderabad Race Club on Sunday when he fell from his horse 10 seconds into the race.
Singh was trampled by other horses which caused him fatal injury, officials say.
He was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Video taken at the start of the race shows Singh wearing yellow silks as he finds himself in the middle of the pack of racers.
He appears to fall from his horse, Gold Label, during the jostling for position.
‘About ten seconds into the race Jitendra fell from the horse, Gold Label,’ Chaderghat inspecter of police P Sateesh said.
‘He was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead on arrival.
‘We suspect that he was trampled by horses and suffered internal injuries.’
Many took to social media to express their grief at the news of the young jockey’s death.
‘Sorry sorry news from Hyderabad as apprentice jockey Jitendra Singh has passed away following an incident in the 4th race at the track. Really puts things in perspective. RIP,’ one person wrote.
‘Unfortunate accident in the 4th race today @ HRC has taken the life of an apprentice jockey Jitendra Singh,’ said another.
One person wrote: ‘Tragic news coming in from Hyderabad, jockey Jitendra Singh who was on Gold Label who went down in the 4th race has passed away! RIP.’
