Speaking about the heartwarming storyline, Julia told MailOnline: ‘I think she’s slowly been falling back in love with him, it’s very romantic, she’s been getting to know him and liking the person that he is.

‘I think what this triggers, the sort of the miscommunication is actually her true feelings towards him because the threat of him being taken away from her.

‘I think it lets her discover that she actually does love him, but because she struggles with getting her feelings across and the way she says things she feels in-equipped to be able to say no no. I don’t want to break up. I love you!

‘I think on the whole, this last year has been on the on the run-up to to this big this big shift in their relationship and sort of the new dawn as it were.’

Elsewhere on the cobbles, Maria (Samia Lonchambon) will be left torn as she learns Gary (Mikey North) is a suspect for Rick’s murder after his ex Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) anonymously calls Crimestoppers.

Despite Gary repeatedly denying any involvement, Maria is torn whether to support her husband, and eventually kicks him out in tense Christmas scenes.

Samia said: ‘I don’t think Maria is surprised by anything that happens with Gary anymore, and we saw that after the honeymoon when they came back, she was sort of questioning him about some credit card bill… so she knows that he keeps things from her.

‘But this is huge and she knows that he is a lot of things but she doesn’t think he’s a murderer and so this is kind of the first time that she’s like actually ”what the hell’s going on, why you being questioned about a man’s disappearance.”

‘I don’t think she truly believes that you could murder somebody but the doubts are creeping in. She’s annoyed with him and obviously even though Sarah is a friend she’s still quite wary of their relationship.

‘So when she walks into the house and hears Sarah accusing him of killing Rick, it takes her aback a bit and then later, she questions Gary about it.’

Already? The couple get a phone call on Christmas Eve asking them to look after a baby boy called Mason for 24 hours, and Toyah embraces looking after the tot

She added: ‘I think it’s really pushing it to the edge with him, I don’t think it’s looking good for them because of the level of trust that she hasn’t gotten anymore because of all this, she just knows deep down he’s hiding something from her and that something’s so serious.’

Meanwhile Toyah (Georgia Taylor) is delighted when she and partner Imran Habeeb (Charlie De Melo) are finally accepted to be foster parents, and receive a phone call on Christmas Eve to look after a baby boy called Mason.

While she is thrilled to look after the tot, Toyah fails to notice her sister Leanne (Jane Danson) is struggling to overcome her own grief, following the death of her son Oliver.

Hard: However Toyah fails to notice her sister Leanne is still struggling to overcome her own grief, following the death of her son Oliver

Georgia said: ‘The timing is really difficult to say the least, but as far as [Toyah’s] concerned she believes that Leanne has gone to France to see her mum Stella and Eva and spend some time with her so the fact is she believes that she’s physically distant as in another country.

‘I guess with Toyah’s backgrounds as a councillor she’s aware what grief is and in a way for someone losing a child a process that never ends really. But I think maybe Leanne’s done such a good job of seeming to convince the world and Nick that she’s that she’s doing okay.

‘I think Toyah wants to believe that that maybe she doesn’t quite see the warning signs and maybe she just thinks okay, this is good this is what I want.’

Coronation Street will air on Christmas Day at 7pm on ITV.
