In a statement Miss Pravin’s family said: ‘Our world has been ripped apart by her death and we can’t believe she has gone. A light has gone out in our lives.

‘Bhavini was a devoted daughter and sister, loved by all who knew her. She was beautiful, kind and sweet.

The statement, reported by The Mirror, added: ‘Our lives will never be the same without her.’

Post mortem tests revealed that Bhavini died from stab wounds.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene at around 12.30pm yesterday and found the young woman critically injured.

The East Midlands Special Operations Unit’s Major Crime Team is leading the investigation.

Detective Inspector Kenny Henry said: ‘Our investigation into Bhavini’s tragic death is ongoing and I continue to appeal to anyone who has any information about this incident to make contact with us.

‘Her family are understandably devastated by her death and we owe it to them, and Bhavini, to determine exactly what happened.

‘Bhavini’s relatives have asked to be left alone at this difficult time to grieve and try to make sense of what has happened to their daughter.’

The address today remained cordoned off and forensics officers were seen removing items.

Neighbours told of their shock at the death. One resident said: ‘Someone said there was an ambulance in the street a couple of hours ago and I thought that was a bad sign.

‘I don’t know the family, but my heart goes out to them.’ Another local said: ‘It’s so shocking that such a young woman is dead.

‘They say she is in her early 20s. She is so young. It is terrible for her family.

‘People do not understand why this has happened. They cannot take it all in that there has been a death on their street and then that someone has been arrested.’

A spokesman for Leicestershire Police said: ‘Enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the death are continuing.

‘Officers have been in the area of the incident carrying out house-to-house enquiries and collecting CCTV as they piece together the moments leading up to Bhavini’s death.’
