This is the shocking moment a mass brawl erupts in the middle of the street as a group of thugs start pummelling each other with cricket bats and metal poles.

Video captured by onlookers showed more than a dozen yobs fighting with weapons in a residential street in Walsall, West Midlands, at around 6.30pm on June 10.

In the footage a large crowd has gathered on a Lewis Street, Walsall, and are shouting at various divisions within the crowd and brandishing weapons such as cricket bats.

An injured man lies in the middle of the road being helped by members of the public, as several thugs prowl the street with cricket bats in hand.

A number of people are seen trying to drag people away from the crowd to try and calm down the situation.

One man was struck over the head with a cricket bat from behind and a woman was left with blood streaming down her face following the attack – which police are treating as a ‘targeted incident’.

Another man is also seen pointing and screaming down the road at another group of people.

The brawl was filmed on the street outside of the Croft Academy, an academy for primary school aged children.

A second clip shows the rival groups charging at each other as women’s screams fill the air.

The thugs strike each other with poles and bats repeatedly, leaving one man lying sprawled on the tarmac.

Video of the brawl was published anonymously on social media on June 11 and has been viewed more than 15,000 times.

A 44-year-old man was arrested by police on suspicion of wounding and remains in police custody.

West Midlands Police said: ‘It’s understood that a large group of people were fighting in the street armed with bats and weapons.

‘On arrival four people were found to have suffered head injuries. Two of them remain in hospital but their conditions are not believed to be life-threatening.

‘Our officers searched the area and seized a number of weapons including a knife and a cricket bat. CCTV is being looked at and house-to-house enquiries are taking place today.

‘Although the enquiry is still ongoing, we have already established that this was a targeted incident and the people involved were known to each other.’

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said that three ambulances and a paramedic officer were sent to Lewis Road to help treat three identified patients.

They also said two men suffered potentially serious injuries and were taken to hospital and a woman was assessed at the scene but refused hospital treatment.
