A 17-year-old who bragged on Snapchat that he would ‘put his Rambo’ knife in a teenager’s chest has been convicted of stabbing another boy just minutes later.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, knifed a 16-year-old three times during an unprovoked attack in Gillingham, Kent, on April 7 this year.

The boy suffered a defensive stab would to his left arm, one to his left hip and another to his chest, just under his armpit, Maidstone Crown Court heard on Monday.

He was trying to flee a group of youths armed with weapons, including a Samurai sword, when his attacker shouted ‘Come on, p***y’ and swung a Rambo-style knife, the court was told.

Witnesses later described having seen two boys, both arms with either a stick or a metal bar, fighting in the middle of the road.

The teenager, who was also 16 at the time, was found guilty of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and having a bladed article.

The jury was unaware that the teenager has previous convictions dating back to when he was 15.

These included offences of racially aggravated assault, criminal damage, and possessing cannabis.

Remanding him in custody for the preparation of reports for sentencing, Judge Charles Gratwicke said: ‘I have no doubt you have been told, if you weren’t already aware, that these are extremely serious matters.’

The jury was told at the start of the trial last week that the accused sent a voice message on Snapchat to a friend of the victim on the same day as the attack.

In the message, sent at around 6.30pm, the teenager threatened ‘I’m going to put my Rambo in your chest’.

Prosecutor Peter Forbes said neither boy had met the defendant in person before that night but were ‘aware of him’ on social media and there was bad feeling.

Mr Forbes told the jury that the boys decided to find out ‘what his problem was’ but as the pair walked towards a block of flats in Gillingham, a group of boys with knives came running out.

‘One was carrying a knife described as Rambo-style. Others had weapons including a Samurai sword,’ the prosecutor said.

He also said that the alleged victim ran but when he tried to cross the road ‘a car was coming’.

Mr Forbes added: ‘He blocked the knife on the first attempt with his left arm, causing a small cut to his elbow.

‘The male then stabbed his body twice – once to the left side of his chest close to the armpit and also to the left hip.’

The defendant fled but was arrested close to the scene and later picked out as the attacker in an identification procedure.

But he claimed that he had been the one chased with knives, the court heard.

He denied being involved in either a fight or a stabbing, telling police he ‘didn’t have the balls to do that’.

Judge Gratwicke was told that it could take up to 12 weeks before sentencing can take place.
