Thrifty couple transform drab hallway panels for just £250

Thrifty couple transform their drab hall and stairs into a sophisticated entryway for just £250 using old scaffolding boards and MDF from B&Q

  • Couple revealed how they gave hallway a makeover to match their sitting room
  •  Tommy and Lisa Byatt, from Birmingham, stripped their drab beige hallway
  • Laid runner rug on their staircase, painted the hallway with B&Q paint and made panels from MDF and a coat rack from old scaffolding and coat hooks

A crafty couple have revealed how they gave their hallway a makeover to match their sitting room, spending just £250.

Tommy and Lisa Byatt, from Birmingham, were keen to spruce up their family home on a budget.

Mother-of-four Lisa wanted to transform their drab staircase, introducing white wooden panels and teal blue walls to the hallway.

And the thrifty couple managed to turn the space into a vibrant entrance hall without breaking the bank, using old scaffolding boards and buying paint and MDF from B&Q, with Tommy performing the manual labour himself.

Taking to Facebook group DIY on A Budget, Tommy shared a picture of the carpeted stairs and stripped walls.

The couple then lifted the carpets, and laid a patterned runner along them, before painting the walls with B&Q paint in sapphire salute, and making the panels with MDF from the store – costing just £40.

Adding a vintage feel, the creative duo then secured coat hooks to an old scaffolding board for the family’s coats.
