Three of Connecticut’s Thimble Islands hit the market for a total of $5.3million

Three of Connecticut’s Thimble Islands are being sold for $5.3million after they hit the market on Wednesday.

Mansion Global reports that the Thimble Islands, an archipelago made up of small islands in the Long Island Sound off the coast of Brandford, were last on sale in 2016 as part of an eight-island deal for $78million.

Buyers interested in private island mansions can choose between Jepson Island, Belden Island and the mysterious Wheelers Island, which is said to have buried treasure.

Jepson Island has 0.28 acres of land and a 1,018 square-foot home. Belden Island has slightly more room with 1.04 acres and 2,038 square feet. Wheelers island is the largest island at 0.77 acres and 2,462 square feet of living space.

Sellers Christine and Edmund Stoecklein previously sold two of the islands, the Cut-in-Two Island and the eight-acre Rogers Island, but decided to keep some others. The couple moved to Washington state in 2016.

Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage listed this Jepson Island home (pictured), located in the Thimble Islands in the Long Island Sound off the coast of Connecticut, for $800,000 – making it the least expensive property of the three beautiful properties being sold

Christina Stoecklein initially bought the islands with her deceased husband John Svenningsen, who was resident and chairman of the board of the party supplies company Amscan Holdings Inc.

They purchased just one of the Thimble Islands, but Stoecklein bought others in the late 1990s and early 2000s after Svenningsen’s death.

In 2003, Stoecklein paid $22.3 million for Rogers island and set a record price for the Thimble Islands.

She spent more than $30million to buy the islands before spending millions more on landscaping, infrastructure and renovations.

There are a staggering 365 Thimble Islands, prompting locals to joke there’s an island for each day of the year.

Fabled for its connection to Thimble Islands where Scottish pirate Captain Kidd was said to have buried his treasure before being executed in Wapping in 1701, Wheelers Island has been dubbed ‘Treasure Island.’

Wheelers Island is located just 14 miles from the exclusive Hamptons across Long Island Sound and sitting in the heart of the Thimble Island community.

Named after the famed Captain William Kidd, the nearby Kidd’s Island is one of the many landforms that bear his name in the Thimble Islands as well as Kidd’s Harbor, Kidds Lane, and Money Island, which was named for his treasure.
