Three family members die as car smashes into them on Cumbrian road – with driver, 47, arrested

  • Three pedestrians have died after a car ploughed into them earlier this afternoon
  • Collision took place at 2.30pm on Abbey Road, Dalton-in-Furness, Cumbria 
  • A 47-year-old local man, driving the Peugeot involved, has been arrested 

Three pedestrians have died after a car ploughed into them at speed this afternoon – a driver has been arrested. 

The collision took place at around 2.30pm on Abbey Road in Dalton-in-Furness, Cumbria, with all three of the victims pronounced dead at the scene.   

A 47-year-old man from the local area, who was driving the only car involved in the accident, was arrested – suffering minor injuries.

The three victims are believed to have belonged to the same family.

Emergency services attended the crash involving the one car, a Peugeot, and the family who were on foot.

A spokesman for Cumbria Police said: ‘The family are currently being supported by our family liaison officers.

‘Officers are also keen to hear from anyone who may have dashcam footage which may have captured the collision or the moments immediately before or after.’
