Buckingham Palace is just metres from Downing Street on the set of The Crown at Elstree. 

Aerial images taken yesterday at the studios in Hertfordshire show the tricks used on the hit Netflix show to film exterior scenes at the two iconic London landmarks. 

While in real life, Buckingham Palace and Downing Street are separated by 23-hectare St James’s Park, the stars of The Crown could quickly hop from one to the other.

The hit Netflix series, which returns with season four on November 15, uses mock ups of Buckingham Palace and Downing Street to film the exterior scenes. 

Set designers re-created the Palace gates, main entrance and inner courtyard on the Elstree lot, which are held up by scaffolding and surrounded by green screens. 

A car was also seen covered up underneath the entrance arch.

Actress Emma Corrin is set to make her debut as the late Diana in the upcoming fourth series of The Crown, which will depict her tumultuous marriage to Prince Charles in the 1980s.  

The series will begin as the 1970s are drawing to a close, with the Royal Family preoccupied with safeguarding the line of succession by securing an appropriate bride for Prince Charles who is still unmarried at 30.
