A primary school teacher has horrified social media users after revealing she paints book covers to create fake designer titles.
Rose Kaylee, from Australia, posted a video of her creation on TikTok, and revealed she made it as a ‘little project during coronavirus isolation’ and was ‘so happy with how they turned out’.
In the video, which has been viewed 350,000 times, Rose shows how she uses layers of paint vinyl and designer stencils to create the illusion of high-end books.
However the idea failed to impress book lovers on Twitter, who said she should be ‘sent to jail’ for ‘defacing the original designs.

In the video Rose begins by adding black paint to a copy of The Talisman by Lynda La Plante, before using a hair dryer to speed up the setting process, and covering the book in a gloss vanish.
Next, she covers a copy of The Last Voyage of Mrs Henry Parker by Joanna Nell in white paint, and adds the gloss.
She then skips to the final result, where she shows the three books with designer logos on them, which she later reveals she made using stencils.
Rose places a candles on top of the three books that read: ‘Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Dior’.
After posting the books on TikTok, many questioned her choices and asked why she did it.
‘I’m sorry but this offends me so bad as a book lover’ wrote one, while a second penned: ‘Cover up books with shallow meaningless designer names…okay.’

A third wrote: ‘It’s impressive how you managed to use a useful book that someone else could read instead of a box,’ while a fourth commented: ‘Couldn’t actually buy plain boxes and decorate them.’
A further added: ‘I have never seen a TikTok that has made me seethe before. But you managed to do it, congrats.’
The clip was then shared to Twitter by Ryan Hammond -a designer at HarperCollins Children’s Books – who joked she should go to jail.
‘Help. Have just come across this horror on TikTok and had to share with all of you book people because a little bit of me died inside,’ he penned.
In response, one person replied: ‘ABSOLUTELY 100% NO,’ while another commented: ‘TF? Why not just paint any old boxes? Or make sleeves for the books. Or get those fake cardboard book boxes.’

It even caught the eye of the UK editor of the Joanna Nell’s novel, who added:’ I am speechless! SO RUDE!’
Following the backlash, Rose made another video where she said she needed to address it as ‘it’s ended up on Twitter with more than 10,000 comments and re-tweets’.
‘Everyone is losing their minds that I painted over these book covers,’ she can be heard saying. ‘First of all, I picked up all these books for under $2 (£1).
‘Second of all, the inside of the book is intact, I’ve not touched the inside at all. So if I do want to read them someday, I could.
‘And finally, I bought these books with my money, I can do with them as I please. I think it’s a little bit crazy that these book people are so b***hurt about this, just calm down. No one is ruining your books.’
