Sigourney Weaver, 71, reveals how a vegan diet contributes to her ageless beauty – and shares her number one tip for staying fit

It’s been over 41 years since Sigourney Weaver first rose to fame as Ellen Ripley in Ridley Scott’s hit sci-fi film Alien, and at 71-years of age, she looks better than ever.

Speaking to Stellar magazine this week, the American actress revealed the secret to how she keeps fit and healthy in her 70s.

One part of maintaining her ageless looks is a vegan diet, which she tries to instill on her sets.

The star, who is currently working on the Avatar sequels, said that director James Cameron ensures there is always vegan food on set.

‘[James] Cameron is also a vegan, so we have vegan caterers on the films,’ the Ghostbusters star said.

‘My husband, daughter and I really try very hard to be at least vegetarian,’ she added.

Sigourney has been married to stage director Jim Simpson for 36 years and they have a 30-year-old daughter, Charlotte.

Another tip Sigourney has for remaining younger than her years is simply working hard and staying active.

‘Working in this business makes me stay fit. Stamina is probably one of the most important things to have,’ she told the publication.

Her comments come after she admitted to T magazine in October, that she didn’t want anyone to think she was ‘too old’ to film demanding underwater scenes for Avatar 2.

‘I had some concerns. But that’s what the training was for. And I really wanted to do it. I didn’t want anyone to think, “Oh, she’s old, she can’t do this.”‘

Weaver couldn’t give any plot details away but did reveal that she practiced diving in Hawaii and Key West, Florida, learning to hold her breath for six minutes.
