This is the shocking moment a speeding driver killed a man and badly injured his partner after ploughing into them as they crossed the road.

Daniel Bracher, 23, mowed down the couple after overtaking vehicles on the wrong side of the road while travelling at 40mph in a 30mph zone.

Harrowing dash-cam footage shows Bracher hitting the brakes in his red Peugeot 207, but it wasn’t enough to avoid the fatal collision at 7am on December 12 last year, in Parkfield Road, Wolverhampton.

Bracher, of Bilston, West Midlands, was jailed for six years and nine months at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Thursday.

He will be banned from driving for more than seven years on his release and will be required to sit an extended retest before being allowed behind the wheel again.

Sergeant Dean Caswell, of West Midlands Police, said afterwards: ‘Driving on the wrong side of the road is inexcusable under these circumstances and the cost in this case was high.

‘It took just seconds to make a bad decision and a life was lost.

‘Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the man who died and also his partner who, not only has to deal with her own grief, but faces considerable treatment for her injuries.’
