Savvy DIY enthusiast DYES her beige bedroom carpet a chic grey in less than two hours – and claims the stylish makeover cost her just £1

A woman transformed her bedroom carpet for just £1 in less than two hours using a cheap fabric dye.

The savvy DIY enthusiast, who lives in Barnsley, dyed the beige carpet a stylish dark grey – and her efforts won praise online.

Writing on the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook group, the homeowner explained how the dyeing process also brought her carpet up ‘like new’.

She wrote in her post: ‘So just want to say the Dylon in a spray bottle really does work.

‘Brought my carpet up like new as well with all the rubbing in…. this took 1.5 hours to do and cost me a total of £1 for the dye I used.’

To achieve her stylish new look, the woman mixed 700ml of warm water in a spray bottle with four tablespoons of Dylon all-in-one fabric dye in ‘smoke grey’.

She explained it took her three 700ml bottles to coat the carpet, and she applied it using protective rubber gloves. 

Once the carpet had dried overnight, she said there was no dye transfer the following morning.

Her post attracted more than 2,200 comments from impressed Facebook users, with many admitting they’d never thought of dyeing their carpet.

One wrote: ‘Wow looks amazing, never heard of this before.’

Another commented: ‘What a great idea, love this stuff, just revived our living room curtains, cushions and tie backs. 

‘Amazing as did not dye the lining on the back of the curtains, that stayed white.’

And one gushed: ‘What a transformation, it looks great.’ 

‘That is fantastic! Never thought you could dye carpet but what a good idea!’ enthused another.
