Sarah Ferguson Storytime with Fergie and Friends’ YouTube show

The Duchess of York has launched a new daily YouTube show where she will read a series of different children’s books to help keep the little ones entertained during lockdown. 

In the first episode of ‘Storytime with Fergie and Friends,’ which she posted to her new YouTube channel, Sarah Ferguson, 60, put on a very animated performance as she read kid’s classic Hairy Maclary by Lynley Dodd.

During the clip, the mother of Princess Beatrice and Eugenie told fans she will be joined by others in following episodes, which will be released daily at 4pm.

While the royal has not revealed who the friends will be, she has no shortage of famous pals, who will presumably join her over video link.

In the opening minute, the royal said: ‘Hello everybody. It’s so exciting because I’m in my favourite place ever, ever, and ever and that’s with children – and I’m thinking of all children out there that just need a little bit of magic. So, everyday, I’m going to do story time with Fergie and friends – not just Fergie!’

‘You haven’t to worry, they’re not very long books – well they could be long books – let’s get a bit of magic going here shall we!’ 

In a second clip, Sarah, who was married to Prince Andrew from 1986 to 1996, reads Lynley Dodd’s Hairy Maclary and Friends.

In the three-minute video, the duchess, clad in a green shirt and daisy headband, also showed off her Alice in Wonderland teapot, her unicorn teddy and a slew of red-headed dolls.

She goes on to say how she ‘loves the book,’ and has her afternoon snack of a tangerine waiting for her once she has finished. 

In an Instagram post announcing the new series, she wrote: ‘Excited to be launching Storytime with Fergie and Friends on my new @youtube and @facebookapp channels – a traditional children’s storytime every day to help keep them entertained during lockdown. 

‘I’ll be reading both my own stories and others and asking friends to join in. It’s all free and just for fun. There will be a new story posted every weekday at 4pm and a longer storytime on Saturdays. 

‘I so hope you enjoy them and they give some of you something new to do during this difficult time for everyone #storytimewithfergieandfriends

The book, the first in a series of 12, was penned by New Zealand  author Lynley Dodd in 1983 and has sold five million copies worldwide. 

It tells the story of mixed-breed dog Hairy McClary and his band of puppy pals, including Schnitzel Von Krumm, a Dachshund, Muffin McLay, an Old English Sheepdog and Bottomley Potts, a Dalmatian.

Using dramatic and animated voices, the Duchess gives an animated reading of the children’s book, before urging viewers to return tomorrow for more as she blows a kiss to the camera. 

Last month, Sarah announced she has signed a seven book deal to write children’s stories.

The Duchess of York, who has written over 25 books over the years, including the Budgie the Little Helicopter and the Little Red series.

The mother-of-two is isolating at the Royal Lodge in Windsor, a 30-room residence she shares with her ex-husband Prince Andrew.
