Demand for retro 70s, 80s and 90s decorations has boomed this Christmas, with interest in original vintage goods at double last year’s levels.
Experts said the boom was caused by Brits wanting to recreate the cosy festive seasons of their childhoods as a way to combat the misery of 2020.
Plastic fairy lights, colourful glass baubles and novelty festive decorations from classic British brands like Woolworths are selling on eBay for over £100 a set.
The auction site reported searches for ’90s Christmas’ were up by 96 per cent, ‘retro Christmas bauble’ were up by 79 per cent and ‘retro Christmas decorations’ were up by 61 per cent compared to 2019.

Online retro store Lovely’s Vintage Emporium has seen a 300 per cent increase in festive homeware and decorations this year compared to last Christmas.
Shoppers on the site have snapped up kitsch festive favourites like Woolworths decorations, Babycham glasses, tree fairies, tinsel and paper chains.
Owner Lynnette Hecker said: ‘Everyone is regressing back to the safety of childhood this Christmas after the horror show that is 2020. We all want to surround ourselves with comforting and familiar objects.’
Demand is so high that online shoppers are fighting over genuine vintage decorations.

Nouman Qureshi, of eBay UK, said: ‘To bring some much needed cheer to the festive season this year, we have witnessed shoppers turning back the clocks and fill their baskets with vintage and retro decorations.’
