RMT chief assistant says he hopes whole Tory party gets coronavirus

‘If BoJo pops his clogs I’ll throw a party’: RMT union fatcat on £100,000 salary says he will CELEBRATE if Boris Johnson dies of coronavirus

  • Assistant chief of the RMT said he would ‘throw a party’ if Boris Johnson dies
  • He compared the PM to Hitler and said they do not deserve compassion
  •  People who argued with him about the Facebook posts were told to block him
  • The RMT made a statement that Hedley’s comments do not represent the union

A rail union boss has sparked outrage after saying he would ‘throw a party’ if stricken Boris Johnson died of coronavirus.

Steve Hedley, the assistant chief of the Rail, Martime and Transport Workers union hit back at friends who criticised him, telling them: ‘I hope the whole cabinet of Tory b*st*rds get it too.’

Mr Hedley, who pockets a wage of £100,000 a year, made the comments on Facebook after the PM was taken into intensive care at St Thomas’ hospital in London, as he battles Covid-19.

President of the RMT, Michelle Rodgers and general secretary Mick Cash, said the post was ‘wholly unacceptable, the Sun reported.

The row erupted when he responded to one of his Facebook friends and said: ‘I don’t want to offend you but if Bojo pops his clogs I’m throwing a party.’

As the conversation continued he wrote: ‘Feel free to block me I hope the whole cabinet of Tory b****rds get it too for what they’ve done to the disabled and poor,’

Scott asked who Hedley would want to replace Johnson if he does not support the Tories.

Mr Hedley replied that he did not want any Tory member in power: ‘I hope the whole cabinet and higher echelons of the Tory party have been touching various bits of him.

‘I do however have genuine concern for all his women and children.’

Another friend posted that Boris Johnson was a human being.

Mr Hedley said: ‘Hitler, Mussolini and Franco were human beings too – would you use the same argument for them?

‘I take it it doesn’t extend to Hitler who killed millions but it does to Boris who helped kill 130,000 through Tory austerity policies.

‘I’ll cry no crocodile tears for people who’ve killed the working class and vulnerable for years and have mishandled this crisis so badly that NHS staff are dying because they have inadequate protective equipment and patients dying because there are not nearly enough ventilators.’

Hedley is a dedicated supporter of Corbyn for his 'anti-neoliberal, pro left-wing ideas'. Hedley said that Corbyn was the reason RMT reconsidered affiliating with Labour in an interview in 2018 with alternative information platform, Investig'Action

In another Facebook post yesterday he asked whether all people deserve compassion.

‘Would those who are feeling sympathetic to Boris Johnson (partly responsible for 130,000 deaths by helping implement Tory austerity policies against the most vulnerable in society) because he’s human extend that sympathy to mourning Thatchers death as she had a family too?

‘If the answer is yes where if anywhere along the continuum do you stop Pinochet, Franco, Mussolini, or even Hitler?’
