Publican posts note on village hall after Covid-breach police reports

Furious pub tells ‘nasty, vindictive’ villagers to ‘just f*** off’ in foul-mouthed rant on parish noticeboard after he was wrongly reported to police for breaching Covid rules

  • His daughter, who is a single mother is staying with the publican and his wife
  • A Somerset villager reported Mr Waterhouse to the police over Covid-19 rules

A furious pub owner has posted a sign on his parish hall notice board telling villagers to ‘f*** off’, after being reported to the police.

Keith Waterhouse, who owns the Badger’s Holt in Bridgetown, Somerset, posted the note on Bridgetown Village Hall after police officers visited him after reports he was breaching Covid-19 rules the previous day.

The note read: ‘Whoever the nasty, vindictive b****** is that reports me to the police for a completely incorrect breach of Covid rules, have the b******* to talk to me first and find out the truth.

Publican Keith Waterhouse posted an expletive-ridden note on the notice board of Bridgetown Parish Hall in Somerset after one of his neighbours reported him to police after his daughter joined his Covid-19 bubble with her children

‘And secondly, oh just f*** off.

‘Keith at the pub.’

Mr Waterhouse, who has run the pub with his wife for 15 years, explained the reason behind the police visit.

‘We’ve had two occasions so far where police have been in contact,’ he said.

‘We’ve got a daughter who is a single parent and in our bubble. In August, she came to see us, and some nasty, vindictive person in thevillage rang up the police.

‘Officers contacted me, and I explained that she was allowed to come here because she’s a single parent, and she’s allowed to do it.

‘Now, she’s back here to live at the moment, and again, she’s allowed to as a single parent with small children. It’s totally within the Covid-19 rules.

‘Somebody here has contacted the police, so they have come all the way from Minehead to see me.

‘I’ve spoken to them quite happily, telling them she’s allowed to be here, she’s now living here.’

Police officers have told Mr Waterhouse that he is not breaching any rules.

‘The note’s quite aggressive,’ he added. ‘I don’t bother holding back or that sort of stuff.’

Under the UK Government’s current coronavirus restrictions, somebody is allowed to form a support bubble with one other household if they are a single adult living with one or more children under the age of 18.

Mr Waterhouse said he didn’t know who had reported him, but said he wanted to find out.

He continued: ‘I’ve not done anything to anybody, so I don’t know why they’re like that and why they have to make an attitude and do something like this.

‘They should have asked what the situation is first; I’m here all the time, I’m happy to tell people what the situation is.

‘But instead, someone has got in touch with the police; I don’t need this.’

Mr Waterhouse, a former science teacher, city trader and parish councillor added: ‘I’m big enough to take this, I’ve been around a long time and I’m not going to put up with that.

‘I have been through a lot of stuff in my life; these lot of bozos doing this are way below my grade as far as I’m concerned.’

A spokeswoman for Avon and Somerset Police confirmed officers attended Mr Waterhouse’s home and that no offences were recorded.
