  • Marc Allen ran out to confront a car thief on his driveway in Erith, south London
  • The 51-year-old was struck by his own vehicle and suffered serious head injuries
  • A month after incident, which took place on December 29, he died in hospital
  • Police launch a new appeal one year on with a £10,000 reward for information

Detectives are today renewing their appeal for information over the death of a homeowner who was struck and fatally injured as he tried to stop a car thief from stealing his vehicle.

Marc Allen ran out of his home to challenge the suspect as they attempted to steal the vehicle from his driveway on Peareswood Road, Erith, south-east London.

But the 51-year-old was left lying in his driveway with head injuries after the man hit him with the car, sending him over the top of the vehicle.

The incident took place on December 29 last year. Mr Allen was rushed to King’s College Hospital in south London and put into a coma.

He died a month later, on January 29, with detectives then launching a murder investigation.

Now, on the one year anniversary of the incident, police have renewed their appeal for information.

They are offering £10,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the murder.

Two people were arrested on suspicion of murder but later released under investigation.

Detective Inspector Jason Fitzpatrick, Specialist Crime South, said in the anniversary statement: ‘This was a cold-blooded act. For the sake of a stolen car, a man was run down and left helplessly lying in the road.

‘More than anything, we want to find out who is responsible for this and we need those with information to come forward and stop protecting this killer.

‘Our enquiries continue and I want anyone who has knowledge to really think about coming forward.
