Police launch murder investigation after body of 88-year-old man is discovered at his home in in leafy Surrey village

  • Pensioner discovered at an address in Godstone just before 11am yesterday 
  • Officers were searching for evidence into the night, partially closing the A25 
  • Cause of death is not yet known and the victim has not been formally identified 

A murder investigation is underway after police found the body of an 88-year-old at home in Surrey.

Officers found the man’s remains just before 11am on Monday at an address in the village of Godstone.

The force is now searching for a suspected killer though the cause of the pensioner’s death is not yet known.

Police have yet to formally identify the victim and are going door to door in the village as part of their probe.

One lane of the A25 was closed until 9pm while officers carried out searches for evidence.

A post-mortem will follow and Surrey Police today attempted to reassure the public in the aftermath of the discovery. 

Detective chief inspector Colin Pirie said: ‘The investigation is still in the early stages but we would like to reassure the local community that we are doing everything we can to establish the circumstances of this man’s death.’
