Police seized £250,000 worth of cannabis from the back of a van on the M1 as six suspects are arrested for drug dealing. 

Bedfordshire Police officers stopped two vehicles near Junction 12 for Toddington, near Luton, in the early hours of this morning.

Officers discovered up to 40kg of cannabis stuffed into the back of a Peugeot.

Police told MailOnline this morning five males and one female were in custody as officers continue their investigation.

Earlier today Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Roads Policing Unit shared a picture showing a van filled with cannabis on the motorway. 

The stop came after officers received intel from nearby Northamptonshire Police.

A van is a hire vehicle from a company in Didcot, around 90 minutes drive from the scene where police seized the drugs haul.

BCH Roads Policing Unit tweeted today: ”Apologies for the disruption on the M1 at J12 this morning. Beds, Cambs and Herts Roads Policing Unit were carrying out controlled stops on two vehicles following intelligence from Northants Police of involvement in drug supply. Six arrests made and harvest of cannabis seized.’

One fellow cop – called Ben – from the unit said: ‘Really good haul. Do we have a big enough evidence bag for that?’

One local – called Rob – added: ‘Damm that’s a lot of weed.’

The Central Motorway Police Group said: ‘Can’t be apologising for a quality stop like that. Good work.’

Another commented: ‘Has anyone called that number to discuss their driving on the HIGHways?’

‘The ‘How’s my driving?’ sticker is a nice touch’
