This is the moment a police officer catches a suspected moped thief by pinning his leg to a fence with his car – before calmly walking over and handcuffing him.

The video, taken last night in Sinfin, Derby, was filmed from a police officer’s dashcam and starts off with the cop pulling onto the pavement.

As he drives up the kerb, two men riding a moped come into shot, with one stumbling off the back.

The officer takes his chance and nudges his vehicle forward, pinning the alleged criminal’s legs against the fence while his mate runs off.

The trapped man can be seen gesticulating towards the policeman before he nonchalantly gets out his car and handcuffs the thief.

Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit said in a Facebook post: ‘Yes Sir, thank you for pointing out your foot is trapped.

‘It’s trapped because you and your mate were putting pedestrians in danger riding on the pavement and failing to stop for us. All on a stolen moped.

‘Both arrested with no injuries and both surprised that we pursued them and were prepared to block their path to stop them.

‘Ignore the rumours and myths – commit criminal offences in Derbyshire and we will come after you.

‘What are stolen mopeds used for? Facilitating other serious offences so it’s a priority for us to stop these criminals in their tracks.’

David Mason, commenting on Facebook, said: ‘Hope the iron fence wasn’t damaged.’
