John Garside, prosecuting, dropped the charge at a hearing at Teesside Magistrates Court.

Carlsson then ‘spat directly in PC Ahmed’s face’ before branding him racist and disgusting names, the court heard.

Simon Walker, mitigating, told the magistrates there would be a ‘positive benefit’ from a pre-sentence report being prepared.

Chair of the magistrates’ bench, John Haddrill, said: ‘We are going to ask for a pre-sentence report before considering what to do with this.

‘The report will reflect your circumstances and your thoughts.’

Carlsson will appear for sentencing on August 25.
