McDonald’s said similar markers will appear in all branches, which from this weekend will serve only takeaway, drive-through and delivery customers.

The restaurant chain is also ensuring at least one member of staff at its branches is in place to disinfect touch screens after every order to prevent customers contracting the disease.

A spokesman said: ‘In light of the recent government guidance relating to social distancing, we have closed seating areas and Play Places and switched to takeaway, mobile order click and collect, drive-through and McDelivery temporarily.’
