Matthew Wright has been ridiculed by This Morning viewers for his mullet and ponytail – with some suggesting his lockdown locks look like a ‘rat tail’.

The TV presenter, 55, from London, appeared on the ITV programme to speak about the latest on Brexit, and whether schools should close ahead of Christmas due to the coronavirus.

But it wasn’t Matthew’s views which caused a stir online today, instead audiences at home were distracted by his hairdo, which featured a tiny ponytail at the back.

The presenter first showcased his mullet back in July after the first lockdown – and many viewers were left shocked to see the hairstyle still in action as he returned to the studio following the UK’s second quarantine.

One viewer wrote: ‘Has Matthew got a rat tail going on or is there something on the back of his head?’

‘Office in the front and party in the back, when did Matthew Wright get a ponytail,’ another asked.

A third said: ‘Can someone stop this interview… it appears there is a rat trapped in Matthew Wright’s collar.’

‘What is going on with Matthew Wright’s hair? He looks ridiculous,’ a fourth unimpressed viewer questioned.

Another added: ‘What is that thing crawling up the back of Matthew’s neck? #ThisMorning’

Matthew appeared on the programme to talk to hosts Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes about the latest news headlines.

The longtime presenters are set to be replaced with Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary as hosts on the hit ITV chat show.

Last month, it was reported that Ruth and Eamonn had been dropped from the programme after both presenting the hit Friday morning slot for 14 years.

But the duo will continue to host the show from Monday to Thursday during the schools’ six-week summer holiday.

Fan-favourite Alison, and Dermot, 47, impressed both viewers and ITV bosses when they covered for main hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield in the summer.
