A football club captain was found hanged after telling his friends he was ‘couldn’t go on anymore’ during a night out mixing alcohol and cocaine, an inquest heard today.
Shaun Young had become emotional while out with friends in Pontypridd, South Wales, and told them he was ‘done’ and ‘couldn’t go on like this anymore.’
When the 21-year-old failed to turn up to work the following morning, his devastated father Paul Young went round to his house where he found his son hanged.

The inquest heard Shaun had been prescribed antidepressants after telling his father he had suicidal thoughts.
But Shaun, who was captain of Ely Valley FC’s senior side, would feel ‘ten times worse’ after drinking alcohol.
His girlfriend Jasmine Adams said Shaun would ‘bottle up’ his emotions and didn’t want to make his dad ‘upset’.
Shaun had been out in Pontypridd in February when he started ‘tearing up’ and told friend Thomas Ivey: ‘I’m done’, adding, ‘Leave me be, I can’t go on like this anymore’.
Mr Ivey took Shaun home to Tonyrefail in a taxi and he promised he would be in work the following day.
His father texted him the following day but had no reply and became worried when he didn’t turn up for work.
A medical cause of death was given as ‘pressure to the neck following hanging’ at the inquest in Pontypridd.
Mr Hughes recorded a narrative conclusion of, ‘deliberate self-harm in a setting of unclear intentions’.

Shaun’s death comes after a string of similar inquests in the area of young men mixing cocaine and alcohol with ‘catastrophic effects.’
Senior coroner Graeme Hughes said: ‘Shaun’s death is not the first in the circumstances we have heard of today of young men, particularly in the Rhondda, taking their own lives in similar circumstances.
‘It’s noticeably a concerning and troubling trend in this court in the last 12 to 18 months.
‘If this inquest highlights anything that those may read about in the press, it will highlight the catastrophic effects of concurrent cocaine and alcohol use can have on individuals with not significant mental health problems.’
