Man dies and woman suffers serious injuries in 3am house fire in Wolverhampton that started in living room

A man has died and a woman suffered ‘potentially serious injuries’ following a house fire in Wolverhampton this morning.

Firefighters, police, and medics were called to Dawson Avenue, Woodcross, at 3.15am on Monday.

The woman, believed to be the man’s partner, had managed to flee the end-terrace property before ambulance crews arrived and she was taken to the city’s New Cross Hospital.

Paramedics said nothing could be done to save the man who was found inside and he was confirmed dead at the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: ‘Ambulance staff arrived to find a woman out of the property being cared for by fire colleagues.

‘Upon assessment the woman was found with potentially serious injuries and was given treatment on scene before being taken to New Cross Hospital.

‘Fire colleagues found a second patient, a man, inside the property. Sadly, nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed deceased on scene by ambulance staff.’

A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service said: ‘We sent three appliances from Bilston, Dudley, and Tipton to respond to a fire in a ground floor living room in an end of terrace house at 3.15am.

‘The fire is now out and we have passed it over to police.’

The property remained cordoned off on Monday afternoon and police were pictured at the scene.
