A Los Angeles nightclub celebrated their ‘soft reopening’ with a swimsuit-clad model popping out of a casket while holding a champagne bottle in front of dozens of partygoers.

Penthouse Day Club in Hollywood went all out for their reopening on Sunday just days after the state of California lifted restrictions on bars, gyms and schools.

Video that was shared on the club’s Instagram shows one model holding up a golden champagne bottle while sitting inside a grey casket in a display that cost about $20,000 spectacle.

The model was then paraded around the club by about five ‘pallbearers’. In the clip, the model and ‘pallbearers’ were seen wearing masks during the over-the-top display.

But while some attendees did wear face coverings, not everyone had on masks.

The celebration was reportedly a ‘soft reopening’ that cost the club about $20,000. It was also in the form of a brunch party.

Table reservations were mandatory and individual groups were capped at 10 people.

Even before the COVID-19 pandemic shut down businesses across the state and the US, the day club frequently hosted outrageous parties, including their St Patrick’s Day party that showed people dressed as leprechauns.

Last week, California officials allowed day camps, bars, gyms, campgrounds and professional sports to begin reopening with precautions.

The nation’s most populated state released guidance for counties on reopening a broad range of businesses that have been closed since mid-March because of concerns about spreading the coronavirus.

It also includes much-anticipated guidance on the fall reopening of schools, which have been shuttered since March.

Democratic Gov Gavin Newsom has been moving the state through a methodical four-step process for reopening, with most counties already allowed to reopen restaurants, hair salons, churches and stores with modifications.
