Hunt for moped caught on CCTV fleeing scene after boy, two, was shot ias police offer £20k reward

Police officers have released this CCTV footage in the hunt for a moped which was caught fleeing a crime scene in which a two-year-old boy was shot in the head.

In a fresh appeal they are offering a £20,000 reward for information that leads to the conviction of those responsible.

The grandmother of the unnamed two-year-old who survived, after the bullet missed a major artery by one millimetre, has also appealed for people with information to ‘do the right thing’ and come forward to help police.

Lillian Serunkuma said the attack on her grandson had ‘perplexed’ her and she is worried that someone who would do that ‘is a risk to the community’.

The toddler was one of four people to be shot in Energen Close in Harlesden, North West London, on June 3.

The boy, his mother 27-year-old Piera Hutton, grandmother and two male teenagers had been walking to the older woman’s home in a cul-de-sac at the time.

At the time a relative said the attacker carrying a handgun shot 19-year-old Rynell Seaton in the arm, before firing at the other man, Juane Youngsam, 18, as he fled.

The shooter then allegedly shot Ms Hutton multiple times as she tried to protect her son.

The boy was rushed to hospital in a critical condition and doctors told his family that the bullet missed a crucial artery, which would have resulted in a fatal injury if damaged, by just 1mm.

His mum and the two teenagers were also taken to hospital with gunshot wounds, which were described as not life-threatening or life-changing.

As part of the fresh appeal police officers hope the CCTV footage will help re-jog  someone’s memory and lead them to the man who left the scene on the moped.

Detective Chief Inspector Pete Wallis, Specialist Crime North, who leads the investigation, said: ‘This was an appalling attack that left a little boy fighting for his life and, by sheer chance, did not end in a fatality.

‘We have worked around the clock to try and find those responsible but we need the public’s help.

‘We are now offering a £20,000 reward for information that leads to the conviction of those responsible for this attack.

‘The public have a huge role in helping to both prevent and detect crime. We need to hear from anyone who has information about this crime.’

Lillian Serunkuma, grandmother of the two-year-old who was shot, said: ‘This situation has had me perplexed by the actions of the person who did this and as much as I appeal to those who have any information I also understand their reluctance to say anything, however I urge them to do the right thing as this could have happened to anyone.

‘The perpetrator chose to do this to innocent victims, therefore this is not a person that should be free if anyone knows something.

‘I worry that someone with that mind-set is a risk to the community. This is something no family should have to deal with.

‘The fact that an innocent child was also a victim, it’s important that people acknowledge this should never happen and any information however insignificant at the time may be important now.’

Six people have been arrested in connection with the investigation.

Ms Serunkuma’s son, Quamari Serunkuma-Barnes, was knifed three times in an attack outside Capital City Academy in Willesden, west London, on January 23 2017.

She branded his then 15-year-old killer’s actions as ‘pure evil’ in a statement read at the Old Bailey as he was locked up for at least 14 years after being found guilty of murder.

She wrote: ‘You never gave Quamari a second chance to defend himself.

‘You took his life in a cold and malicious way.’
