A Tesco Extra has suffered thousands of pounds worth of damage after thieves used a digger to rip three ATMs from the supermarket’s wall.

The machines were cracked open in the midnight ram-raid on the store in Dover, Kent, yesterday.  

It comes as staff in Tesco’s have worked overtime to feed the nation as shoppers clear shelves due to the coronavirus outbreak.

No arrests have been made.

Crumpled metal was seen strewn across the floor outside the Tesco’s in horrifying pictures taken this morning. 

Kent Police said two of their vehicles were rammed and damaged by the digger as the thieves attempted to escape.

No serious injuries were reported, they said. An investigation has been launched.

Tesco said the store remains open today and is still welcoming customers.

Kent residents have reacted to the ram-raid with fury. One tweeted: ‘Look at these disgusting scenes someone turning up at Tesco in Dover over the last few days while this virus is gripping the country!’
