‘After years of living in barracks, it’s like checking into the Ritz’: Hilarious reviews appear on Tripadvisor page for Pontin’s resort in Liverpool from soldiers staying there to carry out Covid testing

  • The humorous reviews called the site a ‘light during this national emergency’

Hilarious Tripadvisor reviews have been left about a Pontins holiday camp that is currently home to soldiers using it as a base during the pandemic.

About 2,000 soldiers have been deployed in Liverpool for mass coronavirus testing in the city, with many of the military personnel based at Pontins in Southport.

Now Tripadvisor reviews have been published about the holiday camp, apparently by soldiers who have swapped their barracks for a room on the holiday site.

Steven George commented under the heading ‘This isn’t a shade on Camp Bastion’: ‘This place is first class, for a man who doesn’t like hot food, this is the place to be.

‘There is no digging in, no stag, there is no way the CGS (Chief of General Staff) would get lost round here, as it’s a palace for the mighty, towering above the town of Southport.

‘If you get COVID there is room service of food deliveries to your room. 2 weeks of this level of service, civvies would pay thousands for this.

‘The only down side to this place is my boots don’t fit and my mail isn’t getting through. But these are only minor points.

‘The site security is excellent, there is no getting through them, not even Deliveroo. There is no shop so it’s a excellent place to save your money.

‘Overall an impressive place to stay. Well done Pontins, you are a ever shining light during this national emergency.’
