A country mansion steeped in royal history and adored by an English Queen has been put on the market for almost £8million.
Mamhead House, which sprawls over 164 acres of Exmouth countryside, is poised to become the most expensive home ever sold in Devon if it fetches the cool £7.95million asking price.
The jewel of the estate is the Georgian stately home where 19th Century Queen Adelaide, wife to William IV, stayed so regularly she had her own room.
More recently, singer Peter Andre and his wife Emily MacDonagh tied the knot on the magnificent estate in 2015.
The Grade-I listed building commands views over the River Exe and has a total of 27 bedrooms and ten bathrooms.
But while the palatial building sits imposingly at the centre of the estate, one of the most impressive features is Mamhead Castle, which features a gatehouse and portcullis.

Mamhead Castle is made from local red sandstone and was designed by Anthony Salvin who replicated 14th Century Belsay Castle in Northumberland.
It was designed as ‘a craggy picturesque foil’ to the main house and was originally used as a stable, coach house, launderette and brewery, which was linked to the house cellars with the underground passage.
And as well as a large camellia house overlooking an Italian sunken garden with a fountain, sundial and seat, the grounds also boast a two-bedroom staff bungalow, garages, outbuildings and an estate yard.
Strutt and Parker, which is selling the house, describes the house on its website as ‘a peaceful and relaxing environment and the reception rooms, bedrooms, terraces and garden make the most of the stunning views over the parkland, open agricultural land and along the East Devon coast to Portland Bill.

A property has been recorded on the land since the Domesday Book in the 11th Century and in 1547 it was bought by the Balle family.
In 1672 Peter Balle, an attorney to Queen Henrietta Maria, was awarded a Baronetcy for his services to the Crown.
Mamhead then passed to the Earls of Lisburne who sold the Estate in 1822 to Robert Newman, then MP for Exeter.
The current house was built as a marriage house for Newman and his bride Mary in 1833 and the family motto, ‘Ubi amor ibi fides’, ‘Where there is love there is trust’ is carved above the front door and is repeated throughout the house.
In 2014 Mamhead House and Castle Ltd was formed to host weddings there but went into liquidation in 2016 after two years operating leaving 21 couples significantly out of pocket.
The business had debts of £608,000 including deposits handed over by wedding couples totalling £229,000.
If it is snapped up for the £8million price tag, it will dwarf the most highest previous price paid in the county of £5.2million for Kings Nympton Park House, which sold in 2016.
A property has been recorded on the land since the Domesday Book but the current property was only build in 1833
