A woman has revealed her brilliant hack for removing the wax out of candle jars in a viral video that has inspired viewers to share their own tips.

Instead of throwing out candles that won’t light anymore because the wick got too low, Shelby Monroe, 24, from Missouri, uses boiling water to pop out the last layer of wax.

‘Self-isolation entertainment and cleaning out my candle cabinet,’ she captioned the TikTok video, which is set to Benee’s ‘Supalonely.’

The clip begins with Shelby peeling off the labels of her nearly-empty candle jars as she waits for a pot of water to boil on the stove.

She sticks the labels on individual plastic bags, so she can identify each scent when she puts the leftover wax in storage.

Shelby then uses a measuring cup to pour the boiling water in each candle jar before letting it sit. When the water has cooled, she is able to easily remove the wax.

Not only is she able to repurpose the jar, but she is also able to put the remaining wax to good use.

The footage ends with her putting a slab of old wax in one of her candle warmers.

Shelby’s video has been viewed more than 670,000 times, and fans were excited to try the hack for themselves.

‘OMG!! LOVING this,’ one person wrote. ‘There’s some candles I’ve wished I could put in my warmer. This is great.’

‘Ugh why am I seeing this on a Sunday night before work. I could have done this over the weekend,’ another said with regret.

Meanwhile, other TikTok users took the opportunity to share their own tips for removing leftover wax.

‘You can also use a Keurig and just brew a cup of water into the candle!’ one person shared, while another wrote: ‘I do this! Except I melt the wax and pour it into other glass containers with a new wick.’

‘Tip! Don’t use regular ziplock [bags] as they don’t hold the scent in well,’ someone else advised. ‘Reuse the glass jars. They hold the scent in longer!’

And plenty of people agreed that the easiest way to remove the wax is actually just storing the candle jars in the freezer.

‘Freezing candles separates the wax from the jar and I’ll pop right out!’ one TikTok user explained, noting that it is ‘much safer than boiling water.’

‘Yes to freezing the candles!! So so easy,’ someone else said.
