Former MI5 ‘child killer’ gets £60k after claiming his crime was sparked by PTSD he got from life as a spy

  • Former British spy claims that he killed a child because he suffers from PTSD
  • The convicted murderer blames MI5 and SIS for letting him undertake missions
  • He claims he infiltrated al-Qaeda and was tortured by the Taliban in Pakistan
  • After sentencing, the man – in his 40s – brought legal bid against Home Office
  • Ex-spy was awarded £20,000 for PTSD claim and £40,000 for ‘money owed’

A former British spy who murdered a child was awarded £60,000 by blaming his horrific crime on alleged PTSD caused by working for UK intelligence.

The man, who cannot be named for security reasons, alleged MI5 and SIS chiefs allowed him to conduct dangerous missions undercover in Egypt and Pakistan – despite knowing that he was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.

Reported to be in his 40s, the former spy claims to have infiltrated al-Qaeda, and to have been tortured as he shared company with Taliban insurgents.

His career ended in disgrace when he was convicted of murdering a child. In 2015, the man launched a legal bid to sue the Home Office for compensation.

The child killer won £20,000 for alleged PTSD, and was also awarded £40,000 which he argued was money owed him by the Government, The Sun reports.

It is believed to be the first occasion in which a convicted murderer has been paid compensation linked to work carried out for the UK intelligence establishment.

However, critics blasted the out-of-court settlement yesterday.

Ex-Met detective Chief Insp Mick Neville told The Sun newspaper: ‘The idea of a child killer receiving this compensation is abhorrent.

‘The public will understandably be outraged. No matter what service you give to the Crown, or what effects are suffered, nothing can excuse killing a child.’

MailOnline has since approached the Home Office for comment.

Britain’s top spy reveals teenage school leavers are being recruited to MI6 after the intelligence service cut its minimum age to 18 as espionage adapts to the technological revolution

Sir Alex Younger revealed how teenagers are being recruited to MI6 as it cut its minimum age to 18 to attract the ‘best talent’ from across the country.

This unprecedented move by the Secret Intelligence Services comes amidst a background of sweeping technological and geopolitical change.

By lowering the minimum age of employment from 21, MI6 hopes to capture the hearts and minds of a generation savvy with modern technology.

SIS invited 30 teenagers from inner London into its Vauxhall Cross HQ to encourage school leavers to apply for a career in British intelligence.

Dispelling false perceptions, such as its exclusive recruitment of Oxbridge graduates, and intelligence officers having a ‘licence to kill’, Sir Alex – known simply as C – told the stunned teenagers: ‘Your generation is key.’

According to the Evening Standard, many of the youngsters only realised they were going to an MI6 event when their buses pulled up outside the security gates.

Britain’s teenagers have been propositioned to consider serving as intelligence officers combating threats posed by hostile foreign governments, terrorist organisations, and organised criminal gangs.

They can also apply for posts in tech, business support, HR, and finance, and move from IT support to spy posts if they show the right skills and values.
