Farmers urge people across Europe to eat steak, chips and cheese to help clear excess produce that had been going to restaurants and hotels

Families across Europe are being urged to eat steak, chips and cheese to help clear excess produce.

Food producers and farmers are desperate to sell goods that were previously going to restaurants and hotels.

The French are being urged to do ‘what you can for cheese’ while Belgians are being encouraged to eat an extra portion of chips each week to reduce a 750,000 ton potato surplus.

In Britain, the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board has launched a ‘steaknight’ social media campaign to try to reduce the glut of beef.
