Emmy Awards 2020: Hugh Jackman hilariously confesses he was so thrilled with his coveted nomination for Bad Education that he ‘woke up his daughter’ with his celebrations

Hugh Jackman couldn’t contain his pride on Tuesday as he celebrated his 2020 Emmy Award nomination for outstanding lead actor in a limited series or TV movie for Bad Education.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter soon after the nods were revealed, the Australian actor admitted his delighted celebrations ‘woke up his daughter’ Ava, 15, at their East Hampton home in New York when he found out he was acknowledged for the acclaimed crime drama.

‘[I’m] feeling very blessed and humbled – I’m grateful to be part of a film that you love doing that people seem to respond to and then you get a nomination. It’s just all icing on the cake. It meant a lot!’ the 51-year-old gushed to the publication.

Following the announcement of the Emmy nominations, Hugh enthused in a separate statement: ‘I’m humbled by the nominations for both me and the film and excited to be named with such a talented group of actors.’

The X-Men star added: ‘My immense appreciation goes out to all those who believed in “Bad Education” – especially the hardworking team at HBO.’

Hugh continued his celebrations on social media, where he shared a clip of Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds congratulating him on the Emmy nomination.

‘Buddy! Congratulations! You just got an Emmy nomination, that’s crazy. That’s crazy, not that you don’t deserve it… well,’ Ryan, 43, joked in the short clip. 

Joking that Ryan was jealous of his exciting recognition, Hugh quipped in a tweet: ‘Careful… you’re looking a bit green.’

Hugh joyfully added: ‘(Thank you @TelevisionAcad for making this moment possible!). #EmmyNominations #BadEducation.’

This is Hugh’s fifth Emmy Award nomination.

The talented actor stars alongside Ray Romano and Allison Janey on Bad Education, which is directed by Cory Finley.  

The 72nd Emmy Awards will take place on September 20 in Los Angeles
