New Wentworth star Kate Box reveals the secrets behind THAT gruesome finger-cutting scene in latest season

Prison Drama Wentworth: Redemption premiered on Foxtel on Tuesday night, and it certainly had viewers squirming in their seats. 

New character Lou Kelly, also known as ‘Fingers’, ironically ended up with one less digit at the end of the episode. 

And now actress Kate Box, who portrays the newest prisoner in the block, has revealed the secrets behind the gruesome scene.  

Eek! Prison Drama Wentworth: Redemption premiered on Foxtel on Tuesday night, and it certainly had viewers squirming in their seats. New character Lou Kelly, also known as ‘Fingers’, ironically ended up with one less digit at the end of the episode 

The Riot star said that the grisly moment was her first filming experiences on the show and it was a ‘total thrill.’ 

‘It was one of those moments, as I was face down on that table with shears to my hand and being looked at by all the big strong women of Wentworth I thought “Ooh here I am,”‘ Box told News Corp.

‘I felt like I’d arrived, I was in Wentworth and there was no slowing down now. At one point it got so gruesome and intense you can’t help but get the giggles. 

‘The adrenaline takes over. It was a total thrill, it was trial by fire from the start.’

The gruesome removal of Kelly’s finger came after she beat up fellow inmate Boomer (Katrina Milosevic) who made fun of Kelly’s boyfriend’s transgender journey. 

In order to assert her dominance as top dog in the prison, Allie (Kate Jenkinson) took revenge on Kelly by using a pair of secateurs to remove one of her fingers.  

Wentworth fans aren’t at a loss for grisly scenes on the show, but Kelly’s finger removal was certainly up there in terms of spine-chilling moments on the show.

For those wondering, Kate revealed that Kelly’s finger was actually saved. 

‘There’s too much shame in losing a finger, it gets reattached. She’s got 10 fully functioning digits from a few episodes in,’ she added.
