Demi Lovato and Sam Fischer reflect on their troubled pasts in the visually striking music video for their track What Other People Say

She recently performed during the post-inauguration Celebrating America event.

And on Tuesday, a music video for the track What Other People Say, a collaboration between Demi Lovato and Australian singer Sam Fischer, was released to the latter’s YouTube channel.

The video begins with a camera panning towards the 28-year-old staring out the window while sitting on a moving subway.

The Disney Channel alum was dressed in a large orange overcoat on top of a patterned bodysuit; she kept her dyed pink hair cut short and wore multiple articles of jewelry during the video shoot.

The singer nonchalantly delivered the song’s first lines while the flashing lights outside the subway flashed off her face.

She then moved into the pre-chorus and slowly shook her head as she delivered the lines ‘I’m living a life that I said I wouldn’t/I want to go back.’

As the chorus began, Lovato began walking through the middle of the subway car as shots of empty seats were juxtaposed with shots of passengers looking out of the windows.

Emotional delivery: Lovato belted the lines 'I'm living a life that I said I wouldn't' during the track's pre-chorus

Her 29-year-old collaborator was briefly seen looking downcast before the Camp Rock actress kept walking past the other passengers.

The Sorry Not Sorry singer began vocalizing at the end of the chorus while lights outside of the car changed hues, which reflected beautifully off of the singer’s beautiful skin.

A shot following Lovato from outside of the car followed her as she moved down its rows and eventually stopped outside of Fischer’s window when he began his verse.

The This City singer was dressed in a patterned jacket on top of a light orange shirt and dark pants during the music video.

The songwriter stayed seated as he delivered his first lines, and he began to move around slightly as he sang, ‘I’m all grown up and I’m black and blue/I could use some tape, I could use some glue.’

Lovato then joined Fischer to duet on the song’s pre-chorus, and different shots were included to place the visages of the two on full display.

As the chorus began, the singers moved around each other while gripping the bars of the subway car and belting out the refrain’s emotional lines.

The Australian native then sang a quick bridge before the singers repeated the chorus, this time on top of the moving subway car.

Shots of the two singing their hearts out were then contrasted with a few scenes of various passengers embracing and kissing.

Lovato and Fischer then approached the car’s doors, smiled at each other, and exited, finishing the video.

What Other People Say was originally released earlier this month, although the Commander In Chief initially announced the song’s impending arrival on February 2nd.

Fischer wrote the song years ago and originally intended to have another artist duet with him before coming into contact with Lovato.

A lyric video was uploaded to the Australian’s YouTube channel the same day the track was released to the public.
