Covid UK: Labour leader Keir Starmer in self-isolation until Monday

Keir Starmer goes into Covid self-isolation until next Monday after coming into contact with an infected individual – but says he has ‘no symptoms’

  • Keir Starmer is going into self-isolation after a contact tested positive for Covid
  • Labour leader said he will be working from home until Monday after notification
  • He stressed he had no symptoms after the contact, thought to have been Friday

Keir Starmer has gone into isolation after coming into contact with someone who tested positive for coronavirus.

The Labour leader revealed that he will be in quarantine until next Monday after being notified of the situation.

However, Sir Keir stressed he has no symptoms and would keep working from home.

As the standard isolation period is 10 days, it suggests Sir Keir’s contact occurred on Friday. The NHS app notifies people after an individual they have been near to tests positive, meaning there is always a lag.

‘This morning I was notified that I must self isolate after coming into contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19,’ he tweeted.

It means Sir Keir will not be physically present for the weekly PMQs session – although he has grilled the PM via video link in the past.

‘I have no symptoms and will be working from home until next Monday.’

Sir Keir was previously forced to isolate after a member of his private office tested positive.

He is the latest senior politician to have to quarantine due to a contact, with Matt Hancock only emerging from his spell yesterday.

Boris Johnson has also been subject to the 10-days isolation rules over recent months due to coming close to an individual who was infected.
