‘Right now at 14 you’re pretty unhappy. You cared deeply about fitting in. You’re not surrounded by the greatest peer group,’ he said.

The Lego Masters host revealed that a bad decision he’d made resulted in him being kicked out his school and feeling like he had failed in life.

‘I remember it feeling very final too. Like you’ve done this bad thing and that was kind of going to be it for life,’ he explained.

Hamish told his younger self to just ‘be himself’ at his new school, adding: ‘I’m glad we had it because I credit that thought and that notion with a lot of good things that have ultimately happened in my life.’

Hamish’s final piece of advice to himself was: ‘Right when you feel like you’re overwhelmed and you want to retreat and take the safe option, that’s exactly the time to take what seems like a big risk.’

He also encouraged a 14-year-old Hamish to confide in people ‘that will give you the courage to be able to make that change for yourself’.
