Care home resident, 97, says Boris Johnson is ‘looking a lot better,’ as PM watches live as she receives first dose of Covid vaccine

Boris Johnson was told he was ‘looking a lot better,’ as he watched a pensioner, 97, receive her first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.
Earlier tonight the prime minister shared footage of a conversation with Jeanette, a pensioner currently living in a care home.
The pensioner is one of 9.3million people across Britain to have received their first dose of a Covid vaccine, according to Government figures shared today.
Before she received her jab, Jeanette had the chance to catch up with the PM – and even manged to pay him a compliment.

The pensioner told Mr Johnson: ‘You’re looking a lot better,’ as they greeted one another over a video call.
The PM seemed surprised at first, asking: ‘Who I am, or you are?’ He then thanked her for the kind words.
Last summer the prime minister revealed he had lost more than a stone after revealing he was ‘too fat,’ when he was hospitalised with Covid-19.
Mr Johnson then watched live as Jeanette smiled while she received her vaccine.

Seconds after the jab had been administered, the PM remarked: ‘Look at that, you didn’t even blink Jeanette. You were brilliant, I was watching you.’
He had a chance to repay a compliment after hearing the care home resident was 97-years-old.
He quipped: ‘Wow. Jeanettte you don’t look it. Fantastic, you look wonderfully healthy. In a couple of weeks you should get immunity from Covid, it will gradually build up.
The PM added: ‘It’s great to see vaccinations going into people’s arms, great to see the way it’s all going so smoothly.
‘I know you’ve had a tough time, your care home has been through a lot. So have many, many care homes across the country. You’re doing brilliantly.’
The footage was shared Twitter hours after Health Secretary Matt Hancock revealed nearly a million vaccine doses had been administered across Britaikn over the weekend.
An impressed Boris Johnson complimented Jeanette in return, putting out how she bravely received the jab, before saying she looked ‘wonderfully healthy’
The Health Secretary said those who had received a first dose of the life-saving drug included more than half of the over-70s, plus nine in 10 of the over-80s.
It came as Britain today recorded the fewest daily coronavirus deaths since December, with 406 more victims as the second wave continues to decline.
Department of Health figures also show cases are continuing to fall, hitting a seven-week low of 18,607 positive tests.
Government data also revealed another 322,000 Covid vaccines were dished out on Sunday, meaning 9.3million Britons have now received their first dose.
No10 promised to vaccinate 13.9million of the most vulnerable by mid-February, in order to begin easing lockdown restrictions.
Fronting the Downing Street press conference tonight Mr Hancock said: ‘We have visited every single care home with older residents in England and offered vaccinations to all of their residents and staff – this has been an incredible example of health and social care working together.’
