Man, 51, denies murdering doctor, 49, and her 14-year-old daughter who were found dead at their fire damaged Lancashire home

A man has denied the murders of a doctor and her teenage daughter.

Shabaz Khan, 51, entered not guilty pleas on Monday to the murders of Saman Mir Sacharvi, 49, and 14-year-old Vian Mangrio.

Dr Sacharvi, a junior doctor with Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust, and her daughter were found dead in their smoke and fire-damaged house in Reedley, near Burnley, Lancashire, on October 1.

Appearing at Preston Crown Court via videolink from HMP Manchester, the defendant also denied arson being reckless as to whether life is endangered.

A date for the trial, estimated to last four weeks, has been set for June 9.

Khan, of Ribble Avenue, Burnley, was further remanded in custody.

Following their deaths, their family said in a statement: ‘The world has lost two beautiful, kind, warm and compassionate people, always smiling and ready to help others.

‘We will always cherish their beautiful memories and celebrate their life.’
