Boy, 16, dies after car he was in smashed into a wall while being chased by police following reports of a burglary in Greater Manchester

A teenager has died after a car being pursued by police crashed into a wall in Stalybridge, Greater Manchester, on Tuesday evening.

Greater Manchester Police said a 16-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision in Wakefield Road.

Officers were called to a report of an attempted burglary in Ambleside, Stalybridge, shortly after 6pm, and followed a Volkswagen Golf thought to be involved.

The car then collided with the wall at about 6.30pm and a second teenager, also aged 16, was taken to hospital in a serious condition.

Inquiries are continuing and a cordon is in place while an investigation takes place.

GMP said the incident has been referred to its Professional Standards Branch and the IOPC in line with standard procedure.
