Body is found by the side of the road in Crawley as police probe ‘unexplained death’

  • A body was found near Southgate roundabout in Crawley on Monday afternoon
  • Sussex Police were still investigating the death at 6pm the same evening
  • The police say the incident is an ‘unexplained death’ with inquiries still ongoing 

A body was discovered on the side of a road in Crawley on Monday.

Sussex Police were called to an area near Southgate roundabout, near the A23 at 1.05pm, with officers searching a large area of undergrowth.

A local dog walker revealed that a noticeable smell had emerged in the area, near Crawley Town Football Club, for several days.

A police spokesperson said: ‘Sussex Police were alerted to a body near Southgate roundabout on the A23, Crawley.

‘Officers are conducting a number of enquiries at the location and cordon is currently in place.

‘Lines of enquiry to establish the full circumstances, including identification, are ongoing and the death is currently being treated as unexplained.’
