Baby suffers serious injuries plunging from fourth-floor window as witnesses describe ‘horrible thud’

A baby is in hospital after plummeting from a fourth-floor flat window.

Passers-by were horrified when they saw the young boy smack the ground in Rainham, Kent, with a ‘horrible thud’. 

An witness told KentOnline: ‘I heard a loud thud behind me and turned round to see this baby laying motionless on the floor.

‘It was a shock to see and we began shouting up the flats trying to get the parents attention.

‘The father popped his head out the window and went into a sheer panic and ran downstairs.’

The air ambulance swooped in on Rainham Recreation Ground at around 2pm yesterday to fly the child to hospital.

The infant remains in a stable condition and police are appealing to the public for information.

A Kent Police spokesman said: ‘We were called at 1.23pm yesterday to a report a child had fallen from a window.

‘They remain at the hospital in a stable condition and inquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing.

‘Anyone who believes they have information that can assist officers can call Kent Police on 01634 792209 quoting 25-0698.’
