An Australian woman has revealed some of the surprising words her and her American boyfriend pronounce differently. 

Tash Tuariki, who is engaged to Jordan Forbes from the United States, says the couple often bicker about how words are said in each country.

The couple posted a hilarious TikTik video of the two saying words like  caramel, aluminium and water.

In the video the couple pronounce the same word in each of their accents, showing the striking differences between simple words. 

The video also revealed that Americans prefer to say ‘shopping cart’ rather than ‘trolly’ and ‘parking lot’ rather than ‘car park’.

The couple’s video quickly went viral, being viewed 2.3million times while gaining 119,000 likes.

Many took to the comments to critique the couple and choose which pronunciation is preferred.

‘The way Americans say oregano really stresses me out,’ one user wrote.

‘I’m stuck on how he says oregano… that sounds like a whole new word!’ another said.

Meanwhile other Aussies commented on how Americans change words completely.
