A 19-year-old turned himself in to authorities in Argentina and confessed to murdering his 24-year-old girlfriend following an argument.

Argentine newspaper Clarin reported that Naim Vera and his partner Brenda Micaela Gordillo returned to an uninhabited apartment owned by his family in the northwestern province of Catamarca around 4am Saturday.

Vera told the police that he and Gordillo had an argument and that he pushed her down a flight of stairs. The frightened killer then used a blanket to wrap her body up and placed her over a grill in an attempt to burn her.

Officials did not say whether Gordillo was alive when Vera burned her body, but forensic experts said she died by asphyxiation as a result of a piece of cloth that was placed over her mouth.

They also found a piece of Vera’s skin underneath Gordillo’s nail, proof that she struggled with her teenage assassin before she died, police said.

Catamarca prosecutor Hugo Costilla confirmed to Argentine state news agency Télam that Gordillo was not pregnant, dispelling initial media reports. He also ruled out that Vera chopped up Gordillo after placing her on the grill.

‘He did not butcher the body, but burned it and, as a result of the fire, the body was dismembered,’ Costilla said.

Vera was accompanied by his father and a lawyer when he showed up at a local police precinct. Costilla added that Vera did not have any assistance in allegedly murdering Gordillo.

Security cameras registered the moment Vera was driving in his vehicle Saturday night on the road where a part of Gordillo’s body was found. Authorities believe he was returning home after abandoning her remains.

Costilla said some of Gordillo’s remains were found inside several bags that were left inside a dumpster about 65 feet away from Vera’s family home. The rest of her remains were located on the side of a road eight miles away.

Authorities were awaiting a warrant to carry out a search of Vera’s residence to seek additional evidence.
