Young and the Restless star Donny Boaz reveals he’s leaving the long-running soap opera… though he won’t be replaced or killed off

After more than a year and over 100 episodes, Donny Boaz is bidding a fond farewell to the soap opera The Young and the Restless.

Boaz signed on to play Phillip “Chance” Chancellor IV in The Young and the Restless back in November 2019.

The 40-year-old actor took to Instagram on Monday releasing a lengthy statement, which confirmed he’ll neither be replaced with another actor or killed off.

‘Sad news: Tomorrow, Monday, 02/01/21, as of now… will be my last air date on “The Young and The Restless,’ Boaz began.

‘Here’s what I know… I was told that Chance is NOT being replaced or killed off. He’s just not gonna be there anymore,’ the actor  added.

With his character not recast or killed off, it’s possible Boaz could return in some way shape or form, but for now, his stint on the soap is done, with the actor adding, ‘Overall, I am grateful and thankful for this amazing opportunity.’

After 108 episodes on the drama series, the actor was confident, ‘that I’m walking away from this better at my craft than before I started.’

He went on to thank everyone at the show, ‘for this amazing opportunity’ while also thanking the fans, who, ‘all have been AMAZING. Thank you.’

‘I want to thank everyone associated with Y&R, my cast mates and the crew. You will be missed. I want to thank my agents and manager for bringing this opportunity into my life. We are optimistic for what is to come,’ Boaz added.

He also thanked his co-star, Melissa Ordway Gaston, who played Chance’s love interest Abby Newman on the series. 

‘I know I said I wanted us to be the greatest daytime TV couple ever, I aimed high, I’m sorry we didn’t get to see it through,’ Boaz said.

‘Working with you has been my absolute pleasure and I can easily say that you are one of the greatest actresses I’ve ever had the privilege to work with. You deserve an Emmy… this year,’ he continued.

Boaz concluded with, ‘ And… that’s a wrap. I am now a free agent. Time to get to work.’

Aside from his work on the soap, he’s been keeping busy elsewhere as well, recurring on Starz’s P-Valley, guest-starring on Star Trek: Picard and starring in the movie Assassin 33 A.D.

He’ll next be seen on the big screen in Flip Turn and Spring Break ’83, with numerous other projects in various stages of production and development.
