Why former WAG Kyly Clarke won’t be changing her surname after split

Former WAG Kyly Clarke reveals new details on her split from Michael and why she won’t be changing her surname amid their divorce

It’s been almost two months since news broke of Kyly Clarke and former Australian cricket captain Michael Clarke’s marriage breakdown.

But on Thursday, the former WAG revealed why she has no intentions of changing her surname following their divorce.

Kyly, 38, told KIIS FM’s Kyle And Jackie ‘O’ show that it was ‘important’ for her to share the same family name as the couples’ daughter, Kelsey Lee, four.

Michael and Kyly, who married in May 2012, announced in February that they were parting ways in a divorce estimated to be worth $40million.

However, they are believed to have separated at least five months prior.

After Kyly said Clarke would remain her surname despite the divorce, host Jackie Henderson related the situation to her own split with ex-husband Lee Henderson.

‘That’s the surname of your daughter, and I’m the same. I want to keep the same surname as well for that very reason,’ Jackie admitted.

Kyly responded in agreement: ‘Absolutely, yeah for sure. I think that’s a bit of a fuss, I think it’s funny how sometimes you make such a fuss in the beginning about changing names or not changing names, but yeah I think it’s very important that our last names are the same and I love that.’

The Clarkes have already agreed terms on their divorce, as well as arrangements to co-parent their daughter, Kelsey Lee.

‘Kelsey Lee is our priority, so we’re just doing everything that is in her best interest – her happiness is paramount,’ Kyly told the Sydney radio hosts.

She added: ‘It [the separation] is weird, because we [her and Michael] basically see each nearly every day anyway, so I don’t even know if it feels any different.’

The brunette stunner was on the radio show to promote her involve in the new High Stakes version of Channel Seven’s House Rules.

Kyly will use her expertise from her design business, Lyfestyled By Kyly Clarke, as one of the renovation program’s three judges.

‘It’s my first TV show in terms of interior design, so I think I was a lot softer [with her critiques] in the beginning, but when I built a little bit of confidence my criticism might have got a litter bit harder,’ she joked.
